"Seven women pose together in a well-lit room. The woman at the center holds a certificate and a bouquet of flowers, celebrating an award. Behind them, a screen reads 'RITELL MLL Teacher of the Year.' The setting includes tables, chairs, and a water fountain, suggesting a school or community space."

Silvia Muñoz Ruiz Named RITELL’s MLL Teacher of the Year

Raíces Upper’s own Silvia Muñoz Ruiz, a 6th-grade dual language educator, has been honored as MLL Teacher of the Year by the Rhode Island Teachers of English Language Learners (RITELL)—a statewide organization that supports educators of multilingual learners through advocacy, professional development, and collaboration.

Muñoz Ruiz is recognized not only for her expertise in language instruction but for the joy, energy, and purpose she brings into every learning space. Her classroom is known as a vibrant environment where confidence, identity, and academic language flourish.

“She’s not just teaching content,” said Tiffany Beltam, Director of Equity, Empowerment, & Excellence for Multilingual Learners. “She’s teaching confidence and honoring identity.”

Muñoz Ruiz’s leadership extends beyond the classroom as she embraces professional learning, supports colleagues, and serves as a trusted partner to families. Her commitment to bilingual education continues to uplift students and inspire the broader educational community.

Congratulations, Silvia! Your brilliance, heart, and unwavering dedication are a gift to us all.
