About the Program
Southside Community Land Trust, Groundwork RI and Harvest Kitchen offer farming, cooking and environmental organizing job experiences through hands-on tasks in farms, kitchens and neighborhood sites. Youth staff help create community food systems where food is affordable, healthy, and culturally appropriate. Youth staff also help to build resilient and environmentally sustainable infrastructure. This project is funded in part through the State of Rhode Island Governor’s Workforce Board.
Who We’re Looking For: To apply, you must:
- live in Pawtucket or Central Falls, RI
- be 16-18 years old
- able to commit to an entire 6-week summer program (Monday, July 8th to Friday, August 16th)
- be willing to work an entire shift, on your feet, outside or in a kitchen even on hot, rainy days.
- have reliable transportation to shifts (bike, RIPTA, walking, car, etc)
- have a computer or tablet with a reliable internet connection
Program Benefits
- about 20 hrs of paid work each week (min. $10.50 per hour)
- Includes on-site training that meets all COVID-19 and social distancing requirements for the workplace. Also includes remote training to be completed at your home.
- Opportunity to develop your leadership skills and learn about future job and college opportunities
- Learn to grow your own food and prepare fresh and healthy food.
Selection Criteria
Youth staff will be selected based on interest in positively impacting their communities, access to other summer activities, and a willingness to participate in farming, culinary and food processing training and community organizing work. Interested, qualified candidates will be contacted and invited to participate in a group, working interview. All application components must be fully completed for your application to be considered.
