Mrs. Jacqueline Barbosa Chantre Named the 2024 Assistant Principal of the Year For Secondary Schools by the Rhode Island Association of School Principals 

Central Falls, RI - The Central Falls School District is proud to announce that Mrs. Jacqueline Barbosa Chantre has been named the 2024 Assistant Principal of the Year for Secondary Schools by the Rhode Island Association of School Principals (RIASP). 

Mrs. Barbosa Chantre is an Assistant Principal at Dr. Earl F. Calcutt Middle School. Jackie brings a wealth of important experience to the assistant principal role, having held a number of previous district and school positions, such as Dean of Students at Calcutt, Secondary Grades Restorative Specialist, and CTE Coordinator at Central Falls High Schools before taking on her current AP role. Jackie has leveled up her leadership in multiple ways that has positively impacted student learning and the school community as a whole. She spearheads the school’s attendance committee, taking Chronic Absenteeism from 48.7% to 22%, a 26.8% decrease from the 2021/2022 to the 2022/2023 school year.  In addition, Mrs. Barbosa Chantre leads the school’s curriculum development work with the mathematics team, supporting the transition to a new curriculum and driving data analysis and planning during common planning time. Barbosa Chantre is a dedicated trilingual school leader who builds relationships with all students, staff, parents, and guardians. She holds everyone accountable while building genuine relationships and raising academic achievement expectations. As Calcutt Middle School continues to work hard to improve student achievement and build a culture of high expectations for academic achievement and social-emotional learning, Jackie’s consistency and dedication are making a huge impact as we drive towards our collective goals and her passion as a leader is making Calcutt better every day.

“We at Calcutt are very excited that Ms. Jackie has been selected as she has had a unique path to being a school leader, which is why she has such strong relationships with our students and staff! We are very excited for her to receive the award,” said Katie Marcotte, Principal of Calcutt Middle School.  Marcotte went on to say that, “Ms. Jackie helps improve our school daily with her compassionate and dedicated commitment to the school community and raising high academic achievement for all students. She is the driving force to closing out the attendance achievement gap, as developed with our School Improvement Plan.

Superintendent Dr. Stephanie Downey Toledo shared that, “Jackie’s leadership has elevated the work we do in Central Falls School District. Jackie has an incredible gift for continuously inspiring students, colleagues, and the whole district to want to do even better than before on behalf of learning and the community. Jackie brings so many talents and an incredible work ethic each and every day. Every time I have the privilege of seeing Jackie in action with students, with families and with colleagues, I am impressed. As a trilingual member of our team she connects deeply with every member of our CFSD community while simultaneously supporting each to do their best. She is most deserving of this honor!” 

RIASP surprised Mrs. Barbosa Chantre with this award on Friday, December 8, 2023, at 1:30 pm at Dr. Earl F. Calcutt Middle School located at 112 Washington Street in Central Falls, RI.
