District - Charter Compact
Who We Are
The Central Falls District-Charter Compact is a collaborative partnership of the Central Falls School District and six charter school organizations serving Central Falls students and families. The charter school organizations include:
- The Learning Community (K-8)
- The International Charter School (K-5)
- The Segue Institute for Learning (6-8)
- Blackstone Academy Charter School (9-12)
- Blackstone Valley Prep: A Rhode Island Mayoral Academy (K-2; 5-6)
- Rhode Island Mayoral Academies
Our Vision
The vision of the Central Falls District-Charter Compact is to work together to jointly tackle the challenge of college and career readiness in an aligned pre-kindergarten-16 system. The Compact seeks to create a system of excellent public school options for the families of the community by sharing expertise, leveraging joint resources, creating efficiencies of scale, and developing a common advocacy coalition for educational excellence.
Our Work
The Compact is currently working together to propose collaboration in the following areas:
- Human capital strategies
- Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics Education (STEAM) and other innovative learning strategies
- Special education collaboration
- Parent engagement, education, and advocacy
District-Charter Compacts Nationwide
In September 2011, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation recognized Central Falls as one of 11 districts nationwide with the most promising district-charter compacts, making it eligible to apply for a Gates Foundation grant, to be announced in the fall of 2012.
