It is with great excitement that I am embarking in this new chapter in my professional life. I’m the former human resources director in Leominster from 2016-2017, former superintendent of the Holyoke Public Schools where I served from 2013 to 2015. Prior to that, I held a senior position in the Worcester Public School System as Manager of English Language Learners and Supplemental Support Services from 2007 to 2013. I believe in shared Leadership and collaborative work. I’m always wondering how to help and support the services we offer to our students every day.
I began my educational career as an elementary teacher and continued as an assistant principal and central office administrator. I believe that public education in America is the biggest equalizer for our children. As an immigrant in this country, originally from Colombia, I have been able to navigate the sometimes complex educational journey in this country. As a country of immigrants we have to build the foundation our students need to achieve all their hopes and dreams. Our students need high expectation, respect, and multiple opportunities to reach the goals set.
My professional work has been centered on turn-around work in urban education. Specifically, with disenfranchised populations (SPED, ELLs, Hispanic, African American, low income students, etc.), ensuring that every student, with the right resources and conditions, is able to learn. I have researched social issues and their impact on education. I have dedicated my professional work to urban education and to finding effective ways to diminish the academic gaps that historically exist among different groups of students in the country.
Now, in this new journey, with the Central Falls community, I’m committed to support the district in any way possible. This is a district committed to equity and excellence and am happy to be part of this team. I’m going to update our website in the next few days with meaningful information and resources. I want to start building bridges with our school leaders, teachers and staff and other community stake holders. Please feel free to reach out to me directly (email@example.com) if you have any questions or if you feel that I could be of any help to you.
