Highlight of the Week –
I was invited/summoned by one of my kindergarten students to a meeting. She had some concerns about the park in her school (the playground) and she asked the principal who was in charge of getting new things for the school. The principal told her that I as the superintendent was the person who she should discuss her ideas with. So she sent me a message with the principal and we set up a meeting. She told me she wanted more things to do for more kids because there was not enough for everyone. She said that only having one was not enough. She said they needed more hula hoops, more scooters, more bubbles, more water, and she wanted monkey bars and a swing. After we had finished our conversation, she said, I want to show you. So we went outside where she proceeded to describe her vision for where things should go. I told her that she was right and that the playground certainly needed more work and more things to do (equipment and supplies). So we agreed to meet again when I had some answers for her. Needless to say, I was so happy with her poise, her advocacy and her confidence. My kudos to her teachers and to her parents. She is now waiting for Mayor James Diossa to visit next week to have a meeting with him about the park in her school.
