VETERANS’ MEMORIAL ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

November News

Dear Parents:

It is with great satisfaction that I report that our NECAP testing went well.  The events planned last month were all successful.  Parents, staff, students and community are working as a team at Vets.  The Superintendent had words of commendation for the great work of our home-school-community partnership.  We still have a lot to work on. We need to keep open lines of communication maintaining a positive and enthusiastic spirit.  Needless to say, we are trying our best. Thank you very much for your support. A note on safety, we are requesting parents/guardians and visitors to observe the School Safety Rules.  All staff has been instructed to stop visitors without a pass and direct them to the office or the principal.  Make sure that approved escorts are included in the child’s emergency form.  If you need to use a different person because of an emergency, make sure that you send a note.  Follow traffic rules and respect the school’s neighbors. Some are complaining that parents are using their driveways during arrival and dismissal times.

Examine the school calendar attached.  Parent and guardians should not miss the 5Q workshops scheduled for November 6th and 8th. Parent/teacher Conferences are scheduled for November 16.  We will be calling and sending reminders.  The Second graders parents are welcome to share or have a healthy lunch with their children on November 20. Get involved! Join the PTSO; for more information call Mrs. Corrales.

We are always looking for volunteers.  If you are interested in helping out during lunch or recess, let me know.  Safety Patrollers Program will begin this month. Students from grade 5 were recommended by teachers because of their exemplary behavior.  Please cooperate with these exceptional students who are trying to make a difference in our school community. They need and deserve our support.  They will assist students, parents and visitors with information and escort through the building if need it. They will direct visitors to the office for ID.  We also appreciate your presence at our first FAST Program activities.  Please see calendar for this month’s activity.  Parents or guardians you are doing a good job at home.  Your children are aware of their responsibilities and are complying with school rules. Homework and school assignments are a reflection of their serious commitment towards the improvement of instruction.  Please have regular conversations with your child regarding this matter.  Also speak to teachers.  They are available to discuss any concerns and are always willing to be flexible.  Please keep us inform of anything that could affect your child performance in school.  We are here to assist you.  Join us for the Principal’s Coffee Hour on November 17.  This month’s special activity is a Cultural Celebration. It will be held on November 30. Please come and bring a friend.
