Springboard

The High School and Middle School will be using a new math and language arts program this year to help students excel. The program is called Springboard and helps teachers organize their curriculum around state and national standards.

High School and Middle School teachers have received training this summer on how to use the new program. Computers have been installed to help teachers follow student progress from standarized tests so each student's progress is monitored. Below is a brief article explaining Springboard in the classroom.

What does the SpringBoard program look like in the classroom?

SpringBoard begins with the teacher. Teachers attend face-to-face professional development to learn new pedagogical strategies for teaching mathematics and English language arts, and how to use SpringBoard's resources to their fullest. Teachers also have year-round access to online mentors and a community of peers to share best practices and questions.

After teachers attend the professional development, they can use SpringBoard's instructional resources online or from their printed Teacher's Manuals. Each SpringBoard Level includes several lessons with enough content to teach, test and re-teach if necessary. All instructional resources are aligned to the College Board Standards for College Success and your state standards. A Linking Guide aligns all of the standards to your district's textbooks, making it easy to cover all requirements by using the SpringBoard program.

Once teachers are satisfied that their students are ready, the students take the diagnostic assessments. Each assessment consists of multiple choice and short constructed response questions. Teachers can score the assessments online or use a bubble-in sheet and scanner if their students must take it offline.

If the students did well on the diagnostic assessments, the teacher can then move on to the next SpringBoard proficiency and strategy. If students did not master the content, teachers can go back to the SpringBoard program and find additional resources to teach the material again. Throughout the program, student exemplars show teachers – and students – what it means to master each proficiency and skill in SpringBoard. Reports are available for teachers and districts to assess the progress of individual students and classes using SpringBoard.
