CENTRAL FALLS HIGH SCHOOL GUIDANCE DEPARTMENT

The Central Falls Guidance Department works hard at helping students gain insight through individual and group activities. The Central Falls High School Guidance Department is fully engaged in the high school reform initiative. The guidance office is now in alignment with the American School Counseling Association National Standards for Counseling Programs. In addition to our traditional services, the counselors introduced the Individual Learning Plan (ILP) to the 9th graders. This instrument, along with newly implemented advisories, will help give students more insight into their growth and development in three areas – social, academic and career.

Central Falls High School

Greetings from the Guidance Department

What is a guidance counselor and how do they help you?

Guidance counselors are here to help your child plan their education, make suitable decisions and solve personal problems.

Who is my child’s counselor?

If your child’s last name begins with:

A-D Mrs. Halpert

E-G Mrs. Silver

H-P Mr. Volpe

Q-Z Mr. McLaughlin

Our secretary, Mrs. Tina Ball, can make arrangements for a meeting with any of the guidance counselors.

How can I check my child’s progress?

*Four times a year, your child will receive a report card which is given to the student to be brought home to you. Expect a report around mid-November, early February, mid-April and at the end of the school year.

*Sometimes, a teacher will send a Progress Report to you. This is a notice to alert the student and you of an academic problem that needs attention.

*At any time, you may call the guidance office at 727-7710 to speak with your child’s counselor. He or she will be happy to meet with you and discuss any of your concerns or arrange a teacher conference.

Be involved with your child’s education!

*Students benefit when parents show interest in their school progress. Students may enjoy learning more, improve their skills and attitudes, develop confidence in themselves, and are better prepared for the future.

*Remember, parents benefit, too! You will feel good knowing you are helping your child get a good education.

Helpful hints…

*Get to know your child’s teachers, subjects and school policies.

*Take part in school activities.

*Help your child with their study habits.

*Show your child that education is important to you.
