On February 1, 2008, the Students of the Central Falls Hotel Academy participated in Junior Achievement’s Ground Hog Job Shadow Day. Hosted by the Rhode Island Hospitality Association student visited the Rhode Island Convention Center, The Westin Hotel Providence, The Renaissance Hotel, and The Providence Performing Arts Center.

Mr. John McGinn, Director of Group Sales took the students on a tour of the Convention Center and explained to them about the many different facets of the venue. Students toured the kitchen facilities, convention floor and were the first to walk the new sky bridge that connects the convention center to the Dunkin Donuts Center.

Mr. Rick Lofria, Director of Group Sales for the Westin Hotel provided an awesome tour of the hotel. Students were amazed at the beauty and luxury of the hotel. Students had the opportunity to tour the newest room of the expanded hotel.

At the Renaissance Hotel in Providence students were greeted by Mr. Thom Riel, Director of Sales and Marketing. Tom spoke to the students about the many opportunities in the industry and provided some personal insight on his own experience in the hotel industry. The tour of the hotel included a visit to the Presidential Suite, ballroom. Students were treated to a terrific lunch and then headed to the Providence Performing Arts Center.

The Providence Performing Arts Center plays host to many events. The most popular are the shows; however, we learned that many other events are also hosted here. Students enjoyed a tour of the members-only lounge. Mr. Paul Hiatt did a wonderful job speaking to the students about the history and renovations of the center over the years.
