U.S. Education Secretary on CFHS

Thursday, November 3, 2011 in Central Falls High School News, District News.

U.S. Education Secretary Arne Duncan was in Rhode Island on Wednesday, at the invitation of the Rhode Island Public Expenditure Council, a policy group that asked the Secretary to speak at their annual dinner Wednesday night. RIPEC hosted the town hall event where Duncan spoke. While giving his remarks, Duncan touched upon Central Falls:

“The events in Central Falls forced some tough, tough conversations. But I believe that Central Falls High School today is stronger for it. I’m told that there is progress in AP access and enrollment, in student discipline, issues of violence and safety are all going in the right direction. The school is aggressively targeting students at risk of dropping out. And the RIPEC report indicates that some test scores are moving in the right direction, though it may still be too early to draw any firm conclusions. Nevertheless, the teachers and leaders in Central Falls deserve a tremendous amount of credit for their hard work and commitment.”
